We are pleased to announce that Kita Cold Storage Co., Ltd. has officially received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. This certification confirms that our reduction goals are scientifically consistent with the ambition of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, and ideally to 1.5°C, as set out in the Paris Agreement.
The SBTi is a globally recognized body established by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It evaluates whether companies’ emissions reduction plans are aligned with the latest climate science.
Our targets, which use fiscal year 2022 as the base year, cover Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and commit us to a substantial reduction by 2030. In addition, we are working toward greater transparency and engagement throughout our supply chain to assess and influence Scope 3 emissions.
This recognition reflects the cumulative results of our ongoing efforts, including:
- The installation of solar panels and transition to renewable energy
- The introduction of energy-efficient systems throughout our operations
- Internal reviews of logistics and facility operations to further reduce carbon impact
As part of our commitment, we will publish monthly updates on our energy and fuel consumption and track progress toward our targets. Through transparent disclosure and measurable actions, we aim to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized logistics and refrigeration infrastructure in Japan.
Guided by our mission—“Reliable Temperature Management with Environmental Integrity”—we will continue to lead climate action within our industry and act responsibly for the future of both people and the planet.
